Description
The Rotes Rathaus (Red City Hall), built between 1861 and 1869, is located in the Mitte district of Berlin, near Alexanderplatz. The monumental building owes its name to the facade design with red bricks. After the Second World War, it served as the town hall of East Berlin, while the Rathaus Schöneberg was the town hall of West Berlin. On 1 October 1991, the administration of reunified Berlin officially moved into the Rotes Rathaus.
