The process of Felting a rug
The process of felting a vegetarian rug is very labor intensive, and part of this is the gentle combing and cleaning of the fleece. However some small particles of dried grass may remain.
About the Sheep
This is from a Shetland Ewe Shearling. She was 13 months old at the time of shearing. This was her first fleece, as such it is very soft, almost cloud like.
About the Shearing process
Our sheep are all sheared by hand, on our family farm by a professional shearer, to minimise the stress to the animal. Shearing is a very important process that helps the sheep by removing last year's wool growth and ensuring that the sheep does not get too hot which can lead to iIllness.
