FROM A CORNISH PUB TO A GLOBAL BRAND Sheltering in the pub from the dark depths of a Cornish winter, the seed of Mariner Jack was planted in my brain. I had the product, I’d been making it for years for myself and friends after all. That’s a lot different to marketing it and selling it though, would people pay above average prices for a great quality product in a time of cheap and cheerful products available anywhere? The short answer is yes, yes they would. Initial batches of products completely sold out within two weeks, so I went from full time to part time work to keep up. It still kept selling so I went full time on this wild adventure. Then Nat had to quit her job to help me keep up with demand. It seems to be working. Four years later, we kept selling more and more so we moved house to incorporate a new crafting room and warehouse. We built this brand with product quality and customer service at the heart of everything.

My name is Jo Thomas. Working from my studio in Cornwall, I design and make beautiful contemporary resin jewellery using a range of stainless steel cabochon settings , working with sand from the Cornish Coastline, adding colours and charms to create this unique range of jewellery that is heavily inspired by the fabulous Cornish landscapes that surround me both on the Coast and in the Countryside. Being British, I do of course love 'builder's' tea, but being herbalist, I tend to favour herbal teas, and have formulated some blends to support health and well-being. Our organic jersey is a high quality 95% organic cotton 5% elastane jersey printed with eco-friendly pigment inks. It is ideal for a lot of clothing items for adults and especially children and babies. The fabric is an off white colour giving it an organic look and feel. The fabric is soft to the touch and has plenty of stretch. All our cotton fabrics are pre-treated to ensure they are durable and wash fast. Our organic interlock jersey is printed using water based pigment inks which are widely recognised as one of the most eco-friendly digital fabric printing methods. Organic Interlock Jersey is supplied to us as an OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and GOTS certified organic fabric.

The Cornish Larder came from very humble beginnings, starting in founder Jake’s parents’ kitchen. Having grown up in Cornwall and spent many years cooking in hotels across the county, Jake wanted to create a business that celebrated the amazing food and drink that this area produces.

Graces Court was an idea conceived by a Cornish couple Paul and Melissa after struggling to find superior quality products that were ethically and sustainably sourced in the UK. Starting out in the basement of their house with just a small box of wax, five fragrances and a brilliant idea. Sea & Flo is a small Cornish based brand of Ultimate comfort Menstrual Cups, Helping create positive experiences and zero waste periods. Run by Maria, a counsellor Sea + Flo is an all inclusive Menstrual cycle wellness brand. That focuses on improving how people feel about their cycles and periods by encouraging positive experiences and challenging unhelpful social constructs and stigmas. An individual uses 11,000 disposable period products in a lifetime. These products often end up in our oceans or landfill. With a menstrual cup, it not only improving peoples lives but our planet as well. A menstrual cup can last up to 10 years and creates zero waste each month making these products a perfect addiction to anyones sustainable lifestyle.

Organic loose leaf herbal tea blends created by our in-house herbalist, all caffeine free and contain no added flavourings at all. We wanted to prove that herbal teas can be delicious without the need to add artificial flavourings (even ones that say they’re natural - still are lab created). Our herbal teas combine herbs that have been traditionally used together for centuries that complement the therapeutic actions of the different herbs in the blend. First we decide which therapeutic action we’d like that blend to have on the body, then we add in herbs to balance out the bitter and pungent tasting herbs with sweeter and more palatable ones, creating a delicious balanced taste that’s easy to drink whilst still being beneficial to your body & mind. We keep our herbs as whole as possible, ensuring a full taste and also the ability to be able to infuse the tea blend more than once, on average one heaped teaspoon will create three cups of tea! Just compost the herbs afterwards.

Frond started out of a love for growing plants & enthusiasm to share this truly wholesome experience with others. Plants can really elevate an indoor space so it’s great that house plants are becoming increasingly popular. However we don’t want them to become a throw away product, something that you replace as freely as cut flowers. I am a big ocean lover and growing up by the sea means the ocean has always inspired my pieces. Through my art I hope to spread happiness through the bright, colourful nature inspired products. I am a complete traditional artist and create everything with watercolour paints before digitally enhancing these to make my homeware and stationery ranges. Through my original paintings and prints I hope to spread love for the incredible natural world around us, that’s why each print comes with a little species or location fact card! As the environment is such an important part of the Lowenna Designs brand, I always try to ensure the products are as sustainable and eco friendly as can be. All of my products come in either recyclable or home compostable packaging.

Every coat I have has pockets full of precious found things: I hear shells rattling about with bits of plastic when I pull one on to take the dog out, I fiddle with acorn cups while I'm waiting for a coffee in my local cafe; I scrunch up bits of lichen and tangled sea-string while I'm trying to find my gloves. Using recycled materials, remaking old broken jewellery or basically ‘rubbish’ in this way is a sustainable way of creating unique pieces that aren’t a strain on new resources and whose material components are traceable. I use traceable boulder opals from Australia set in eco-silver for magically coloured statement rings and pendants; and I’ve been collecting amethysts, aquamarine and other crystals from local sites Cornish crystal claw-set rings and pendants.
