“Surreal Meal: René Ma-grits” is a food parody of René Magritte’s famous painting “The Son of Man”. The well-known hovering green apple is replaced with a bowl of grits. The back of the card says: Belgium artist, René Magritte’s (1898–1967) surrealist paintings used ordinary objects to engage the viewer’s mind and challenge their perception. His “This is Not a Pipe” (1929) was a debate regarding the mental space between experiences of the world and its reality; a continued theme during the surrealist years, and on to today. One of Magritte’s most well-known paintings, The Son of Man (1964), was used for this visual parody. “To be a surrealist means barring from your mind all remembrance of what you have seen, and being always on the lookout for what has never been.” Rene Magritte Have a bowl of Rene’s Ma-grits at your favorite diner. “Surreal Meal: René Ma-grits” is a 5" x 7" folded card with a blank inside and is printed on quality 110# stock, presented in a clear cello sleeve.
