Advent Wheel (also called the Winter Wheel)

Description

This beautiful Wooden Advent Wheel takes children and adults on a journey - ultimately to the centre, towards light and a celebration of Christmas, yule or midwinter. The illustration captures winter, with its animals and people - but more than this it allows us space to think about the rocks beneath our feet and the plants around us. Each week welcomes a new element, minerals, rocks and bones, then plants, followed by animals and then humans. In my family use our wheel as a table centre - to keep space and focus and we move a small wooden Mother Mary closer to the centre each day: we also light a candle each week. On each Sunday of advent we light one more candle, so this space gets increasingly light: even though the world outside is dark. We use this time just before our meal to remember that we are each a light in the dark. And then on Christmas morning we light all the candles and enjoy our celebrations!
