Conceptually, for the last few years I have been inspired by the concept of ‘Everyday JOY’; the little things which we delight in but often overlook - and haven’t we needed that in 2020! With the craziness of coronavirus, local scenes of ‘everyday joy’ such as local walks and ‘indoor scenes’ - potted house plants, everyday garden plants have become the central theme to my work.My paintings all stem from a love of colour, texture, contrasting colours, colour explosions and ‘pops’. I’ve always been inspired by natural form and patterns found in nature and creation. Artistic inspirations include Arabella Shand, Kate Owen, Mary Fedden, David Hockney, Matisse and Bruce McClean. I take part in ‘Studio Friday’ studio sessions at Insight School of Art in North London where artists Michelle Karpus, Jo Gilbert, Raina Goran + Jacqui Grant all inspire me alongside my mentor AWRS Paul Regan and of course - my creative family - my textile-mad mum Tessa and brother Joe @ Insta DefoMaybe / Snakeeyesdie.
