Devore is a burnout technique, seen on velvet or silks where a mildly acidic product is used to draw a design in fabric to create a “cut out” texture of semi-transparent pattern against more solidly woven fabric. Good to Know You will learn how to dye your fabric, create your own devore paste and print your own devore fabric with a pre-exposed screen of your artwork. This course is suitable for all levels of maker but the screen will be pre-exposed for you ahead of the class. The Place The studio is set within Arch 533, underneath the railroad tracks that run along Brixton Station Road. Orphans Yard itself is a tiny hidden part of Brixton, that you would never know existed. The street get its name from the nearby Brixton Orphanage, which was established in 1876. As you walk along the rest of Brixton Station Road, you’ll see that it is a mishmash of independent creatives, artisan shops and local businesses all working alongside each other.
