This elegant bronze sculpture was created by the Burkinabe artist Adama Ouedraogo. The reading woman is a symbol of learned and strong women in Africa.
Working with bronze is a traditional craft in Burkina Faso. The term bronze refers to different alloys based on copper, zinc, lead and tin, the proportions of which vary. The bronze today comes from the recycling of old fittings, such as water taps or parts from air conditioning systems.
